“Dey 9” Epic Enhanced Path of Revolution, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Says
Speaking Sunday at an open session of the parliament on the anniversary of the event, he said the “Dey 9” epic enhanced the path of the Islamic Revolution.
On the 9th day of the Iranian calendar month of Dey nine years ago (December 30, 2009), millions of Iranians held rallies in the capital Tehran and several other cities to condemn a foreign-orchestrated unrest that had erupted following the presidential elections earlier that year.
People were especially angered by incidents that had taken place days earlier in Tehran, where a group of opportunists had offended the sacred values of the nation on the day of Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam.
The day has been designated in the Iranian calendar as the “day of insight and nation’s allegiance to religious leadership.”
Larijani said the day is always remembered as it demonstrated the power of the Iranian nation that dealt a blow to enemy plots.
He also decried the US government’s insistence on pursuing the failed policy of sanctions against Iran, saying the vigilant Iranian nation has become a source of inspiration for other nations in standing up to US bullying.
People from all walks of life took part in demonstrations and ceremonies on Sunday morning in cities across Iran to mark the “Dey 9 epic”.
